Tarkarli, near Sindhudurg Fort, is known for exceptionally clear water considered among the best on the Konkan coast for snorkelling and scuba diving, its combination of a river estuary and open sea coastline giving the area varied water conditions within a compact stretch of coastline. Water sports operators offering diving, snorkelling and dolphin-watching trips have made Tarkarli one of the more activity-focused beach destinations along the Konkan coast.
The Karli river backwaters, running alongside the beach, add a further scenic dimension, and Tarkarli's relative proximity to both Sindhudurg Fort and Malvan's Malvani cuisine scene make it a natural base for exploring this particular stretch of southern Maharashtra's coastline.
Tarkarli's clear water and reef conditions have made it one of the Konkan coast's more recently developed water-sports destinations, with diving and snorkelling tourism growing significantly here over the past two decades.
