History

Ancient Period

  1. Home to the Satavahana, Ikshvaku, Eastern Chalukya, Kakatiya, and Vijayanagara dynasties.
  2. Flourished as an important center of trade, Buddhism, and Hindu culture.
  3. Amaravati became one of the most significant Buddhist centers in ancient India.

Medieval Period

  1. Ruled by the Vijayanagara Empire and later the Qutb Shahi and Mughal rulers.
  2. Telugu literature and temple architecture flourished.

Modern Era

  1. Andhra State was formed on 1 October 1953 as India's first linguistic state.
  2. Andhra Pradesh was created on 1 November 1956 by merging Andhra State with the Telugu-speaking regions of the former Hyderabad State.
  3. Telangana became a separate state on 2 June 2014.
