Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu is a state in southern India, renowned for its ancient temples, rich Dravidian heritage, classical arts, scenic hill stations, beautiful beaches, and vibrant cultural traditions. It is one of India's oldest continuously inhabited regions and is celebrated for its magnificent temple architecture, classical music, Bharatanatyam dance, and Tamil literature.

History

1. Tamil Nadu has a history spanning over 2,000 years and is one of the cradles of the ancient Dravidian civilization.
2. The region was ruled by powerful dynasties, including the Cholas, Cheras, Pandyas, and later the Pallavas, who built many of the state's magnificent temples and monuments.
3. During the medieval period, the Chola Empire became one of the greatest maritime powers in Asia, extending its influence across Southeast Asia through trade and naval expeditions.
4. In the colonial era, much of the region became part of the Madras Presidency under British rule.
5. After India's independence, Madras State was reorganized in 1956, and on 14 January 1969, it was officially renamed Tamil Nadu, meaning "Land of the Tamils."

Geography

Tamil Nadu is located in southern India and shares borders with:

The Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats meet in the Nilgiri Hills, while the state's long coastline stretches for over 1,000 km, one of the longest among Indian states. Tamil Nadu experiences a tropical climate and receives rainfall from both the southwest and northeast monsoons.
