Introduction

Ghoghla is a long, relatively uncrowded beach on the mainland side of the strait separating Diu from Gujarat, offering wide open sands and calmer surroundings than the more developed beaches directly on Diu island. Its greater length and space make it a favoured spot for longer beach walks away from the busier tourist areas.

A scattering of resorts along the beachfront cater to visitors looking for a quieter stay outside Diu town itself, and the beach's position closer to the bridge connecting Diu to the mainland makes it a convenient stop when arriving or departing the island. Water sports facilities have also begun appearing along parts of the beach, gradually giving it more of the recreational infrastructure found at Nagoa.

History

As Diu's tourism has grown, Ghoghla has developed as a quieter alternative to the more established Nagoa beach, appealing particularly to visitors seeking more space and fewer crowds, and its position on the mainland side gives it a slightly different character from the island's own beaches.

Best time to visit

October to March.

How to reach

About 5km from Diu town, near the bridge connecting the island to the mainland.
