Apple orchards surrounding the village add a further agricultural dimension, and Lachung's relatively basic but functional tourist infrastructure has developed specifically to support the steady flow of visitors passing through en route to the region's more famous high-altitude attractions.
Lachung's monastery and traditional Bhutia architecture reflect the area's long-standing cultural identity, predating its more recent development as a tourism gateway following the opening of North Sikkim to wider visitor access.
